A New Era of Play

The time has come. With your support, we are constructing a new, state-of-the-art turf field for our field hockey, lacrosse and softball teams.

A Game-Changing Advantage for Baldwin Students

The Baldwin School’s Upper Field will undergo a $4 million transformation in the summer of 2025, including the installation of a new turf surface. These field and program enhancements will be a game-changer for Baldwin students and substantially benefit the athletics department, physical education and the school community. They will also support our mission of nurturing our girls' passion for competition in athletics.
Hear from our student-athletes and coaches why a turf field is crucial to success!
“It is hard to overstate the significance of this project to not only our Baldwin athletic teams, but also to so many community members. This field, along with a strategic focus on athlete development and our coaching staff, will be only the beginning of considerable growth for our athletic programming." - Baldwin Head of School Lynne Macziewski

Project Details

  • Construction of our new state-of-the-art turf field will begin mid-May 2025 and is expected to be completed by August 2025.

  • In addition to the turf field, the project includes a new stone terrace, rain garden and an expansive natural amphitheater seating area framed by the School's historical cherry trees. This new area can accommodate over 100 spectators.

  • The turf field will be the new home for Baldwin’s field hockey, lacrosse and softball programs and – since Baldwin already boasts one of the most sought-after, premier grass soccer fields – an essential all-weather alternative for soccer.

  • This modern facility will be engineered to enhance performance significantly and provide a durable, all-weather surface for year-round play allowing our current and future student-athletes to compete at the highest level.
“We are very excited to add the turf field, as it will provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to train on the surface they most frequently play on,” said Meg Glascott-Birch, Director of Athletics at Baldwin. “The all-weather surface will allow athletes to practice in all conditions and return competitive play to home-field advantage for our field hockey and softball teams.”

$2 Million Commitment Launches New Fundraising Effort

The fundraising effort kicked off with a generous lead commitment of $2 million from an anonymous Baldwin family, who established a one-to-one matching challenge for all gifts over $25,000 to catalyze momentum for the campaign and encourage others to donate at a leadership level. Every donor who makes a $25,000 commitment by June 30 will be recognized on a granite wall as part of the beautiful new terrace at the entrance of the amphitheater.

“As a former Division I field hockey athlete and now coach, I know firsthand how a turf field impacts player performance and development. Field hockey is a dynamic sport that demands a fast, high-quality playing surface and is essential for preparing our student-athletes for the next level. The consistency of turf enhances ball control and footwork and ensures our athletes develop the skills, speed and precision needed to succeed at the college level and beyond. After years of traveling off-campus to train and playing on inconsistent grass fields, our student-athletes deserve a turf field they can take pride in and call their own.”

The Future of Sports at Baldwin is Looking Green

    • The Baldwin School is committed to sustainability and has selected Sprinturf because their products, manufactured in the U.S., are designed to conserve water, reduce carbon emissions and minimize landfill use.

    • Turf fibers and backings are 100% recyclable, and Sprinturf is an industry leader in developing organic infills to replace the more environmentally damaging materials typically used in synthetic turf systems.

    • Baldwin’s new turf field will use BrockFILL™ as its infill — an engineered wood-particle infill that improves traction, reduces the temperature on the turf and enables synthetic turf fields to look, feel and perform like natural grass.

“The spectacular location will allow us to showcase our beautiful facilities and host local and regional sporting events, including competitive club teams and camps, to introduce new audiences to The Baldwin School. This project is a great way for alumnae, parents and friends to make an immediate, measurable and wide-ranging impact through their generosity to the School.” - Baldwin Head of School Lynne Macziewski
